Phase 3 - Stabilising Bare Peat
Without the roots of vegetation to ‘knit’ together the soil, peat will be lost from site. The impacts are numerous and are provided in more detail in our ecosystem services section.
Once steps have been taken to stop or at least lessen the effects of the drivers listed in phases 1 & 2 a period of physical stabilisation must begin. As vegetation takes time to become established on the degraded moors, more immediate methods need to be implemented that can act as a temporary skin that will reduce the erosion.
