Phase 2 - Managing Sheep
Removing sheep completely from restoration areas is also a key component for success.
In April 2003 a 31km fence was erected around a 25.5km2 area of Bleaklow to prevent fresh young growth being eaten. This was funded via an ESA stock exclusion payment where the farming tenant is paid to keep sheep off the site. The fence is not a permanent structure and will be removed when it is deemed the moors are in favourable condition.
