Be fire aware games

Visitors to the Peak District National Park can learn how to be fire aware with two new games in visitor centres. The games are the first phase of the delivery of digital interactive exhibits at the Moorland Centre in Edale and the Upper Derwent Visitor Centre at Fairholmes that will help visitors learn about the causes and effects of moorland fires.

The games are designed to be fun and educational.

Fire Ranger is a snakes and ladders style game with a moorland theme. A grouse and mountain hare race along a flagged footpath to reach the summit trig point, answering questions on how to spot and help prevent moorland wildfires on the way.

In Fire Danger, visitors are invited to help the Ranger make a pinboard of fire risks he has photographed out on the moors, sorting the items into high, medium and low risks.

There are more plans in the pipeline that will include a map of the northern area of the Peak District National Park which visitors can explore to learn about wildfires through videos and photos. There will also be a weather station at each of the two visitor centres showing the current weather and how the weather affects wildfire risk.
